Welcome
In 2003 an amazing journey of ability, friendship and spirit took root and the Standing Spirit Project was born. It is the first time that anyone with a significant physical disability has hiked the rugged and pristine West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island. The quest continues this summer with a kayak trip along the coastline paralleling the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail known for its rocky, big surf beaches and its temperamental currents and weather patterns. The crew of ten, almost all strangers to one another at the outset, came together to create history and discover amazing friendships in the process. Along the way this adventure would break down barriers both physical and mental, while opening people’s minds and eyes both on the team and from around the world to what is possible if you can imagine it.
We welcome you to share in this adventure by spending time on our website browsing the incredible photos and video captured during the hike, as well as by participating in our blog and sending us comments via mail. By being a part of this we hope that you are somehow inspired to share our story with others and spread the message that no matter what happens to you in life your spirit will always stand tall! |
